Pre-heat grill or broiler to over 400 degrees. In a 12-inch non-stick saute pan, place the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and pepper. Saute until soft and lightly browned. Add the Basic Tomato Sauce and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Meanwhile broil the sausages until cooked through, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Cut the baguette into 4 equal pieces, and split each piece open. Place 1 link of sausage inside the piece of bread and transfer all four sandwiches to a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the oven for about 5 minutes until the sandwiches are quite warm. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and spoon 4 to 5 tablespoons of the tomato mixture over each sandwich. Serve. This recipe yields 4 servings as a nice lunch.
