Preheat oven to 350°F. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the vegetable shortening, cherry juice, cherries and the milk and beat for 2 minutes. Add 1/2-2/3 cups(4 large) unbeaten egg whites and beat 2 minutes more. Then fold in1/2 c. Of chopped nuts. Pour into two greased and floured round cake layer pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
