Pare, core and grate apple to measure 1 cup.Mix with ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg and seasonings.Shape into balls about 1 1/2" in diameter.Brown on all sides in oil.Drain excess fat.Combine remaining ingredients;pour over meatballs and bring to boil.Core and cut remaining apples into wedges.Add to skillet.Reduce heat, cover, simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until apples are tender.Remove bay leaf.
